His father was Denis, who spent some time in the British army, did the odd bit of smuggling in his time and died when he was a teenager. His mother was Sarah McLaughlin, her brothers were Ned, Hughie and Phillip and they were known as the Toys of the Cross. Believe they hailed from the Quigley's Point area
