The Muster Roll of the County of Donnagall 1630 - Barony de Eneshone
One of the conditions placed on the Planters of Ulster was that they should " .. have ready in their houses at all times, a convenient store of arms, wherewith they may furnish a competent number of men for their defence .. ".
The Muster Rolls were the names of the able-bodied men whom Lord Chichester, the landlord in Inishowen, could assemble to fight for his lands and for the Crown should the need arise. The majority of men were likely, therefore, to be of English or Scots origin rather than indigenous Irish. The Roll of those available to fight was drawn up by William Graham in, or around, the year 1630. The original is in the British Library.
The Muster Roll covers all of Inishowen, not just Moville. No further information about individuals is available.
